edit: i have uploaded the (larger) ayala rally pictures to my flickr account, by the way. you can view them here (under the manila folder).
ok, so she cheated (and i'm not talking about your girlfriend). however, before we condemn her as the anti-christ incarnate, i'd like to ask these questions first: who exactly can we replace her with that is honest and competent (if ever such person exists in the government)? who exactly resembles a remotely viable option for presidency should she relinquish her power, be it by force or her own accord? yeah, i thought so. no one. don't even say noli. don't even think about saying susan hind-ko-tinatanggap-ang-sorry-mo roces. please, now. i was dead-drunk last weekend and i still feel the lingering effects of the hangover five days later. i might hurl a chair at you. so please...
no, i don't advocate gma's resignation or impeachment (as much as i loathe hearing her voice on tv). not when we have kabayan as the successor. or mrs poe as the next cory aquino should there be a snap election (god forbid). and who says susan roces is not interested in politics? yeah, and pigs could fly. she's no mother teresa but she's the best option that we have, garci or no garci. so there you go...pick your poison.
however, as much as i'm willing to give gma's election fiasco a pass, i won't be as quick to dismiss the jueteng allegations of her kin. who the hell makes the "sacrifice" (if that's what they call it) of leaving the country when they're under scrutiny for jueteng involvement? that's called "running like a fugitive". sacrifice my ass. anyway, i was in yesterday's ayala rally as suggested by the pictures. no, i wasn't there to shout gloria, gloria ibaba. i was there since i felt it's an event that needs documentation. i was too young to remember edsa 1, so i wasn't going to let this pass. with that said...
seeing the rally from a far, the words democracy, people power, brotherhood, unity and like comes to mind. but wait till you get there. more than half of the people are drunkards in torn clothes, bums, angsty teens looking for a riot, students cutting class, politicians with ulterior motives, and lower class individuals hoping to get a glimpse of their favorite celebrities. politics to me seemed like the least of their cares. which makes me believe all the more that most are "paid rallyists".
getting there was a major pain, since all of ayala from makati avenue till way past paseo de roxas was full. i've never seen seen a bigger multitude in my life. shredded papers were also falling like snow from the high-rise buildings. oh well. some people just think politics can be changed like flipping channels.

| jeff July 17, 2005 03:45 PM PDT dana: i could be wrong, but i think there has already been an EDSA 4. and people have been calling this recent AYALA 1. funny, funny people. i've linked you up, btw. i tried to comment on your blog a few times but it says i need to be a registered xanga member. earl: thanks for dropping by. i've linked you up, too. | ||
| Earl Thad July 16, 2005 11:23 PM PDT I agree... as far as I know(as of this time), there's no one more capable than her. I'm not actually a pro-GMA but if there's gonna be a snap election between her and Mrs. Poe or Erap. I'd rather support her to cheat again! | ||
| Dana July 16, 2005 12:40 AM PDT Interesting entry. I totally agree with you. I mean, People Power 1 was great; People Power 2 was like ok, but kind of had you asking yourself, "Why are we at this again?"; And now People Power 3??? It's sad... Sad, sad, sad. | ||
| jeff July 15, 2005 09:44 AM PDT rocketboy: my thoughts exactly, especially about the people power part. at the rate we're going, people power will be a fad, or a sorry excuse for people who sell out for 300 bucks. karla: i think they're divided because they each have their own agendas. even drilon switched sides, perhaps realizing his own personal gain out of this whole fiasco. and we all know that noli's simply playing his cards safe, and that deep inside he's salivating. they all remind me, in a way, of gollum lusting for the ring of power. | Karla July 15, 2005 06:25 AM PDT Hmm... I share your sentiments. I am actually glad that more and more people are acting and voicing out their feelings. But what I'm not so glad about is the fact that most of these people do not fully understand the reason(s) why things are the way they are. They are certainly acting...but...not thinking that much. Another thing that's bothering me is that the opposition is very much divided. They are there to oust PGMA but they have different ideas on what to do after they have successfully removed her. I think that it would prove to be a lot more chaotic if they would push this...well, if they would push through without any form of unity. I am not pro or anti-PGMA... Honestly can't decide because I can't see any light on both roads. | ||
| rocketboy hasn't slept July 15, 2005 12:42 AM PDT I agree with you 100%. I got your back dude. I'm from Pampanga but I'm not pro- Gloria all the way. Like you said, she's the best we got considering the options. EDSA 1 and 2 worked because of 2 things: 1. People Power was made up of the real sons and daughters of the Philippines i. e. the TAXPAYERS (blue collar, white collar workers, OFWs and legit businessmen) not stambays and drunks queuing for their P300. 2. The military were aching to break away from Marcos and Erap. Cory, FVR and Gloria have teh Mil on their side because they were taken care of by these presidents. Lesson no. 1 on being a President TAKE CARE oF YOUR MILITARY. My two cents (which in the Phil exchange rate amounts to almost nothing) | ||
