WAKEY, WAKEY!
7.2.2005

i always wake up on the wrong side of bed every sunday, although literally the other side of my bed is against the wall. why is that? because armageddon takes place in our quiet little neighborhood every sunday.

my family has a born-again school/church as tenants, and this time of the week (and saturday nights too, occassionally) they would rattle the whole neighborhood with loud church music amplified by microphones, electric guitars and drums. they would sing for hours, non-stop, without any regard to whether their neighbors are still in deep, peaceful slumber. it makes me wonder at times if those guys bled rock n' roll in their younger days.

don't get me wrong: i don't disrespect their desire for sunday worship, or of any other religion for that matter. it's just that i (as well as many others in my neighborhood) don't appreciate the manner by which they do it.

i can't seem to comprehend, for the life of me, how they--of all people--could possibly disregard other people's desire to have a quiet, peaceful sunday morning. when i was working on graveyard shift, i found it utterly impossible to sleep soundly after coming home from work. who wouldn't, if they had their room facing the born-again version of ozzfest. i kid you not.

and pray, tell me, didn't God himself long for peace and rest on the 7th day?

if only i had some earplugs (although having one wouldn't be of much help, i'm afraid). oh well, i guess a little serenity on sundays is too much too ask.

here's to me not popping a vein in my forehead tomorrow morning.
